Duality of Deliverance – Pastor Torey Williams

Sermon Points

2 Sam 21:18 There was again a battle with the Philistines

In his life there were many nations David battled with and you never hear of them disturbing David again but from the first battle with Goliath all through his life David has to battle the Philistines again and again.

There is a duality of deliverance. Some deliverance is immediate, total and final. Other forms of deliverance have to be continually fought for.

Interestingly, you never hear of David losing a battle with the Philistines but nonetheless he had to keep fighting them. As he fought them God gave him the victories.

Paul says in his writings that he had a thorn in the flesh. He asks God to take it away, to which God basically tells Paul “No. I wont take it away but I will show you My grace.”

God’s deliverance for us indeed can be instant and immediate but in other instances of our Christian walk God delivers us as we keep contending for His grace in our circumstances.

Acquiring Confidence – Mark 1:21 – Pastor Nigel Brown

Pastor Nigel Brown UK

Jesus taught with authority in the scripture casting out demons and bringing peace to unsettling situations, but what gives us the confidence and authority we need for our Christian walk?

I recall a situation one day where Pastor Wayman Mitchell, walked out of the church onto the sidewalk, into the middle of a pending rumble between an angry group of men and the ushers of the church. He spoke out to a female police officer who was not able to maintain order and with authority said “Dear, you better get these men off our property right now…” and immediately the situation began to settle down, diminish and the men dispersed.

Where do we get the kind of confidence we need to do what God wants us to do?

Things that happen in public first begin in private. Personal battles that we fight through and win amount to larger public battles. Just a few verses prior in our text Mark 1:13 Jesus had fought through 40 days of temptation in the wilderness.

You must make up your mind. There is no limit to the power of a made up mind. Elliott Prior, a four year old British child in the Westgate mall during the Nairobi Kenya terrorist attack confronted a gun wielding militant “you’re a very bad man.” His would-be attacker, broke down apologized to him, gave him a mars bar and allowed him and other children nearby to leave the mall unharmed.

Confidence comes by winning. The more you step out by faith and attempt for God the more confident you will become. Confidence is the byproduct of acting on something and winning.

Psalms 27:1-3 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

When Man is Silent, Chaos Ensues

Gen 1:1-2 KJV In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (2) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

In just the first three chapters of Genesis…

God moved from chaos to creation by speaking.

Adam moved from creation to chaos by silence.

When a man or woman will not speak to the elements, influences, opinions, temptations and various issues of life which pass through the home, they are permissive of the chaos that undoubtedly ensues.  Chaos is the default result of no purposeful order that can only be brought by the power of speaking God’s word into your life and situations.
